Addressing Criticism

While the majority of the feedback was uplifting, there was one negative comment from an attendee who felt I wasn't authentic enough. It's important to acknowledge that not everyone will resonate with every speaker or message. However, I firmly believe that the topics I chose to speak about were relevant and impactful for the audience as a whole. I could have said I was disheartened to be honest, my topic was Authenticity and I shared my story, why do some women find it okay to hurt others in their own insecurity?

Confidence in My Message

This experience reinforced my conviction that I made the right choice in the content I presented. The positive responses from the majority of attendees confirmed that the message was well-received and meaningful. I will continue to lean into my authenticity and the values I believe in, as they are what truly connect with others.

The Lack of Women's Funding in College Athletics: A Problem

The disparity in funding for women's athletics in colleges and universities presents a significant issue that impacts female athletes, sports programs, and the broader landscape of college sports. Here are some key points highlighting this problem:

Women’s sports have historically been underfunded and undervalued compared to men's sports. This trend continues to affect the resources allocated to women's athletic programs.

Title IX, enacted in 1972, aimed to eliminate gender discrimination in educational institutions, including sports. Despite its intentions, many institutions still struggle to achieve true equity in funding and opportunities.

  • Budget Allocation: Women's sports often receive significantly smaller budgets compared to men's sports, affecting facilities, equipment, and support services.

  • Scholarship Opportunities: Fewer scholarships are available for female athletes, limiting their access to higher education through sports.

  • Marketing and Promotion: Women's teams receive less visibility and promotional support, leading to lower attendance and sponsorship opportunities.

The lack of funding directly affects the experiences and opportunities available to female athletes, including:

  • Performance and Development: Limited resources can hinder training, coaching, and competitive opportunities.

  • Psychological Effects: Female athletes may feel undervalued and demotivated due to the lack of support and recognition.

  • Career Opportunities: Reduced visibility can impact future career opportunities in sports and related fields.

Addressing the funding gap in college athletics requires:

  • Increased Awareness: Raising awareness about the disparities and advocating for equity in funding.

  • Policy Revisions: Institutions need to review and revise their policies to ensure compliance with Title IX and promote gender equity.

  • Support from Stakeholders: Engaging alumni, sponsors, and the community to support women's athletic programs financially and through advocacy.

In conclusion, the lack of funding for women's athletics in college is a critical issue that requires immediate attention and action to ensure equality and support for female athletes.
