If there was one topic that has been blogged about hundreds of times, and always leads to feeling like "damn, I must really not be motivated" it's this topic. And trust me, I have read thousands of posts about how to be motivated, how to keep a good mindset, etc. I have tried journaling, planning my schedule every Sunday, meditating, scheduling going to the gym, you name it.
Mostly all of those things have failed for me, and here is the reason why, we are putting more pressure on ourselves in an already super stressful role as a woman in a sales position. Adding more things to our busy lives, without us actually being able to achieve them is like getting hit by a revolving door, turning around, and getting hit again.
I think that keeping and sustaining a small business does require motivation. Part of that is your grit to not let your business fail, and the other is working on putting something together that works for you. After these last few years what works the best for me is time blocking.
It keeps me motivated in my small business because I set broad goals that I want to achieve. Those tasks do not have to be overbearingly huge like most people say they do. It can be making a customer happy, making phone calls, eating well and drinking enough water, etc. Go to bed knowing that you made a positive impact in your business can really keep the motivation going. Here is what my schedule looks like. I have found time blocking is the most affective.
7-9 am - Free time (eating breakfast, spending time with my family, going to the gym if I want, reading , etc)
10-11 am - power hour of following up with past or current clients and check ins
11:30-12 o'clock - planning on how to make new business opportunities
1-3 pm -working on new business
3-4 pm - wrapping up contracts
5 and on - necessary to do's
This schedule leaves flexibility in my schedule which I try and make revolve around my son. We only have one and it's important to show up for him. I fill in my calendar with clients for the specific dates and times that I need them but insure that I try and make it within the times I have allowed for myself.
This is what works for me, what works for you?
With love
